skin condition ?

When we first got maggie she had small scabby places near her tail head I assumed it could have been from bug bites and she had what looked like a scrape near her hip and a small round odd patch on under her chin. She still has those spots near her tail head and the scraped looking place is bright red and about the size of a 50 cent piece.I think it may be ring worm under her chin and I know how to treat ring worm but Im afraid of the meds getting into her drinking water. I dont think she has lice or rain rot what is the deal with the places on her and what can I put on them? She licking the one on her hip. If nothing else Ill ask our vet she has an appointment thursday. What products do yall use on your cattle?

Tinactin can be used on the ring worm. The scabs could be staph, which is not uncommon. Generally what the scabs are, are little pusstules, and they will go away over time. One way to treat them is to use diluted strength hydrogen peroxid. Ideally the store stuff bought, cut with 50% water (even though its already cut, cut it more). Spray it on her tailhead, a couple times a day, should help. Another option is tetracycline, you use this stuff on hoof warts (I beleive thats the stuff). Another option is diaper rash stuff, if the aformentioned stuff doesn't work.

The "cut" or the "scrape" near her hip, treat that with Viatmin E for 3 weeks, a couple times a day, should clear up, or alteast promote hair growth. Chances are, she keeps licking the spot, so it wont heal or atleast grow back.

Under her chin, as I mentioned, try tinactin, the spray on stuff, or cream. Should help with itching. Ring worm does clear up after a while. When did you get her? Because if its been several months, could be something else, what I wouldn't know till a picture is taken.

sounds a lot like a lice problem. The bare spots near the tail head and on the hip bone are caused by rubbing. Look closely in the brisket area, sometimes they concentrate in patches there and can be seen as a black area in the hair.
