sick cow

on monday a cow, freshened in april 07, losing weight, it just fell off her, temp of 103.5, put her in tie stall, put a magnet in her and started her on asprin bolus's am and pm. all the rest are in good shape, did she get some hardware or eat something in the pasuture, that made her sick, she is now eating grain, hay, making manure and urinating. she needs to put the weight back on but is definately looking better. didn't use antibiotics in case I have to ship her, any thoughts would be appreciated. petefarms.

An actively sick animal would be tanked with or without antibiotics. Since she seems to be recovering I would just watch her. If she takes a turn for the worst I'd give a whopping big dose of antibiotics. If you have to keep her an extra month so be it.

An acute condition, or was it a gradual weight loss over time?

If you haven't already done so get her out of that stall and on grass. Nothing worse than confinement for animal health.
