Jeffers also sells a metal calf weaner for about $6.50 that is a nose ring. It is made just like a bull ring with a stainless, pronged piece of curved metal riveted to it. They all work the same, but the metal one pierces the septum and will not come out and be lost.
Leave either one in for at least a couple of months. If you remove them too soon the calf may resume sucking if the cow is available. I had one that lost the plastic nosepiece and the cow finally kicked him off a week or so before the next calf. This is the same silly cow that allows thieves to get their fill.
