Value of Jersey Bull Calf

My Jersey cow is due to calve in November. If the calf is a bull, we would like to sell it for breeding (besides, we already are raising a beef steer). I am curious about the value a bull calf like this. How much could it sell for? We would probably raise it to about 4 months, wean it, and then sell it.

The cow, Sambos Chantilly Lil, is a purebred, reg. Jersey. She scored as EX-90%. Her sire is Lester ----- and her mother’s sire is Mason Boomer Sooner Berretta.

I do have one milk record from before I bought her:
3-08 305days 2x 18940lbs 6.1%bf 1162 3.7%p 706

More currently (last year at 5 yrs), she gave 21,000lbs in a lactation and routinely tested at around 6.5%bf and up to 7.8%bf. Yes, she gives a lot of cream!!

She is bred to Storm N Oaks Valiant 147JE6071, whose sire is Forest Glen Barbers John –ET, and mother’s sire is Molly Brook Glnwood Freedom –ET.

Thanks!

Here are some photos of Lil:

Jersey bottle babies (less than a week old) cost $50-$60 dollars....At four months the calf should weigh 200 pounds and would sell for $125 dollars or less...Of course that is common for my area.

Yep, forget the whole "bull breeder" idea. Well bred jersey bull calves are common as dirt, and most folks breed IA.

Just got luck, I guess

We sold our Alf son/ well bred dam for $300 last month. All registered, 6+ gal a day dam, healthy, de-horned and very handsome bull calf.

We hand milk both his dam and 1/2 sister (Lester Topkick) daughter.

Common as dirt, but sold for a few bucks.

There is still a market for dairy breeding bulls. Just may require more time and effort on the seller's part to find the right buyer who appreciates the Genetics you have to offer. Registration papers would be in order if you wish to pursue this market....IF it's a bull, LOL.

The seller seemed to make a big deal of the fact that one of the Jersey heifers I bought last week is A.I. bred to a bull named Alf. I'm totally uninformed about Jersey genetics, is Alf a special bull. Does he sire high producing daughters, put good udders on them, etc., what makes him special????
