Day Old Angus Heifer

We have a Angus Santa Gertrudis cross heifer that was born earlier today . We are noticing that we can hear a lot of her heavy breathing. Not sure if we are being overly worried or if this is something to worry about. It was around 97 degrees today and mom takes great care of her. It sound like it might have a pluged up nose, one side is runny and the other is not. Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you witness the birth? If a calf comes backwards it doesn't get the amniotic fluid all squeezed out when the ribs pass through the cows pelvis.

Now this might sound stupid, but here me out. Do you have a snoose chewer in the family? If so stick a pinch of snoose up the calves nose. I guarantee that the calf will cough, blow, and sneeze any fluid out of it's lungs.

Thanks tinknal my wife got me out of bed and drug me out to our pasture in my undies with a can of chew I could not touch . Her breathing (not my wifes) seems to be much better in the cooler night air. It down in the 60's now. She was up running around and feeding and it looks like there has been more drainage out of her nose. We are going to wait and see how she is tomorrow morning. Thanks again, and we will let you know.
