How does that color taste?

I'd worry more about the milk.....................

Colors can change throughout the year according to seasons.
The basic color(s) is usually pretty obvious by the time they are a year old. Actually by about 4-6 months you can get a good idea.
Winter brings darker coats, Summer can lighten coats, etc....
The majority of Jersey bulls are darker in color. Especially the older they get. Doesn't have a strong effect on the offspring color. Though the white will come through in most lines.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I just want to learn all I can so I can take good care of my little jersey girl. I have sold 3 horses so I would have more time space and attention for her.

a jersey bull born red will most likely turn black, a bull born grey or tan will too

has nothing to do with the color he throws, its just the breed,

the girls start getting the masks about 6 months to a year

a girl born tan or red will stay close to that with black mask maybe tail and black streaks on legs

a girl born brown will get a bit darker with red highlights

Interesting. I have two jersey/holstein cross heifers and they started out looking jersey. They shed out to solid black now at 7 months. Is that what they will stay? If I breed them to a jersey, what color should I expect since they would be 3/4 jersey?

You will still have to do something different to get chocolate milk.

I have heard that a pound of chocolate chips a day will do the job. Just mix it in with the regular feed!

Jerzeygurl,
What kind of bull did you breed to your half jersey/half holstein black and white to get a red and white calf?

I've got a half jersey, half hostein heifer - she was a golden color with dark points - now she is a dark chocolate brown with black points. She has lost nearly all the golden highlights - reminds me kind of a liver chestnut - if we were talking horses, lol. She's five months old.
