What to do with dexter bull calf

I have a 3 month old dun dexter bull calf. He came with his mom when we bought her. The plan was to raise him up for beef, but I bought a 630 angus steer at the sale. So should I make a steer out of the dexter or sell as a bull? He can be pdca registered. He is real blocky and calm.

Well he can't breed his own mother unless you want problems, so I would try to arrange for a sale at weaning as a purebred with or without papers. If not he can still be castrated at shipping weight if you have too. Although I would not advise it unless you waited too long and ran out of options. You can rent the tool at most feedstores. That will do up to a full grown animal, painlessly. I usually try to do my bull calves before they are strong enough to fight much at one or two days of age. It is very painless then as the nerves in that area have not developed at that age.

You can rent the tool....what is the tool? A crusher, or cutter? I've got two jersey bull calves that are 2 months approximately. I am thinking at this point I have to cut?

I wouldn't think you would have any trouble in selling him, especially if he is long legged.

How do I know if he is long legged? His mom is pretty tall. I haven't got the papers back yet. I will post his lineage when I get his moms papers. I am about 55 miles north of K.C. right off I-35. I am new to dexters so that's why I don't know how to tell if he is long legged

After eating Dexter Beef and finding out that it is by far the best beef on earth (no kidding and no hype), I would sell the Angus, and keep the Dexter for myself, for my own freezer. Dexter Beef is especially outstanding when finished on good grass and alfalfa hay, no grain necessary. I gave some Dexter steaks to my sister, and my beef connoisseur brother-in-law raved about them for a long time. He said it was the best beef he's ever had in his entire life.
