Does anyone artificially insimulate (spelling)

Or whatever you call it? If I get my Highland milk cow, I am hoping to artificailly insinmulate her instead of having a bull around. When growing up we would walk our milk cow down the road to one of my uncle's ranch and have her bred to one of his angus bull. After leaving her their for several days we would walk her back home. 1 mile distance.

But if I get me a Highland milker there is no one close by who raises them that I am aware of. I checked a internet site for people who raises them and about the closest to me is about a 2 hour drive.

So I'm wondering about the AI method and how you do it or where to get it done?

Talk to your large animal vets. Most of them do AI. If not they should know of some of the semen guys that do.

Ask your large animal vet, extension office, 4-H, FFA, other beef and dairy farmers, etc. Some of them may do AI and be willing to store some Highland straws in their tanks and come out and breed your cow. Or they can direct you to an AI technician. A lot of the AI companies list technicians by state (Semex, Genex, Taurus Service, Accelerated Genetics are ones I can think of off the top of my head).

This is a sensible approach. It would not be economical to have a semen tank and supplies to breed one family cow. The cow owner does need to do their part of the job, though, that is, watching for heats so the inseminator breeds the cow when it will be effective.

Hey watch it there Tricky and Ladycat! I happen to be a guy! Brute type! I just can't spell worth a darn. It's not often that I get to use those big words. Much less spell them.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Even if you got a good laugh off of me!
