Aborting?

I have an Angus cow who brought the neighbors bull home the end of December, he bred her. She would be due the end of September. We recently moved them to a new field (1 week ago) She has some stringy membrane hanging out. I am assuming she is aborting but not sure what would have caused it. Should I be looking for something else to come out or has she already aborted and this stuff hanging out just the leftovers? She acts fine and stays with the herd.

She is not aborting! What you are seeing is the mucus plug.

During pregnancy, cervical secretions increase to produce a very viscid mucus, serving to seal the cervical canal by the so-called mucous plug of pregnancy. Before parturition, this seal breaks down and is discharged in strings

She couldn't have gotten bred before that. I know when she got out and I went to pick her up but she was already coming back home with him in tow. It was a pleasant surprise since she was the only one who hadn't gotten bred the last time they all got out and went to visit the big guy. He produces very nice calves. I don't have a bull of my own. I am thinking about getting one since they seem to like one. She wouldn't be losing a mucus plug this early would she?

Is this membrane bloody at all? The one thing you could do is do a preg check on her, see if she did abort. It sounds like the normal mucous with pregnancy, i've seen it a few months out. Generally I see it after they have been laying down.

At only the end of the 2nd trimester, I wouldn't expect to see any mucus. In my opinion you should get her checked by a vet. I'm not sure what you are describing, but could be some retained placenta and she has already aborted.

What is still hanging from her is a thin strand of not mucus but the membrane sorta like an umbilical cord would be made of (thats what it looks like to me). How long will it hang out of her? and she also has milk. When I first noticed it a few days ago she looked like she was standing up and straining a little but I had to leave and couldn't sit around and watch her but that thing was already hanging out.
