Question Can you sell fresh milk?

I would really like to find someone locally that has fresh milk to sell. I have never seen anyone advertise milk on any of the posting boards at the feed store. I've heard that the goverment controls this commodity and dairy farmers are not allowed to sell to individuals. There are several Amish communities South of me and perhaps they sell milk in that area. I'm just not sure where to look.

I buy mine from an Amish community. someone told me about www.realmilk.com or something like that that has the state laws about selling fresh milk. I have a friend in MO somewhere, I cant recall where, that buys some from the Amish...and I only pay $2 a gallon for mine!

try that link I posted, and I'll double check it and post the right one if thats not it.

Raw milk sales are legal, both on the farm and by delivery from the farmer to the consumer. Farmers must obtain a permit from the state in order to be able to sell raw milk and must have state approved bottling equipment on the premises. Customers cannot bring their own containers. In addition, farmers must comply with state labeling regulations for retail raw milk and raw milk products.

Here is what it actually says. I spent quite a bit of time checking into this as we do sell raw milk off the farm when we have extra.

Missouri Statutes
TITLE XII PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELFARE
Chapter 196 FOOD, DRUGS AND TOBACCO
FLUID MILK AND FLUID MILK PRODUCTS

196.935. State milk inspection required on all graded fluid milk or milk
products pasteurization required, exception.

No person shall sell, offer for sale, expose for sale, transport, or deliver any
graded fluid milk or graded fluid milk products in this state unless the milk or
milk products are graded and produced, transported, processed, manufactured,
distributed, labeled and sold under state milk inspection and the same has also
been produced or pasteurized as required by a regulation authorized by section
196.939 and under proper permits issued thereunder. Only pasteurized graded
fluid milk and fluid milk products as defined in subdivision (3) of section
196.931 shall be sold to the final consumer, or to restaurants, soda fountains,
grocery stores, or similar establishments; ********except an individual may
purchase and have delivered to him for his own use raw milk or cream from a
farm*********.

Notice that last bit. Only *graded* milk is subject to all that government regulations. That is, if your farm and barn has been graded by a milk inspector. If your not graded, your ok. If we get our goat milk barn inspected and licensed, we will not be able to sell milk milked in that barn. But if we aren't graded, thats ok. This was told me by an inspector himself. Does it make sense?? No, but then we are discussing government regulations......
