Looking for Jersey Heifer in Texas

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and my wife and I are new to the farming life. We are attempting to get more into the natural food/living. So far we have goats, chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, a turkey, horse and, a donkey. We are just short the cow and are looking to find a jersey near DFW preferably but that is not a must. Any suggestions or ideas were we con get on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Texas is still highly dairy influenced. So you shouldn't have a very hard time locating a Jersey. I've heard a lot of dairy cattle sell at Sulphur Springs every Thursday. When you google it, try (sulphur springs texas dairy sale) and it comes right up. There are also a couple of Jersey dairys around Gainsville, TX if I understand correctly. Good luck to you.

Try www.usjersey.com. The directory has a state listing of Jersey farms. Ya might find one willing to sell a cow.

Thank you

Hello,

I'll give these a try thank you. The funny thing is we have a farm near us (with in a mile) that has registered jerseys but whenever I've stopped off there is nobody around and I can find a phone number or listing anywhere for them.

You might try stalking the place very early in the morning. (between 4am and 7am) that should just about cover most morning milking times.

Last resort maybe?

That would require me to be up at that time Actually I'm usually on the road by then trying to get to work which so far is the only drawback we have found to living in the country. But if nothing else works I might just end up doing that.

Thanks
Andrew
