Question Milking Shorthorns

I've got word that there are two milking shorthorn heifers possibly available, inexpensively. They are nearing two years old, and need to be bred. I've got no info on the breed. Anyone out there have them, or would care to weigh in? We would only buy one, if the price was right. We've got about 2 acres.

My family had the best herd in the U.S. at one time.I think they are the best dual purpose cow you can find.

It is stated that approximately 40 of the major breeds are influenced by Shorthorn genetics. I have a few Murray Grays that trace their ancestory to Shorthorn bloodlines. If there was not a sale barn penalty for certain breeds and color I would love to have a herd of small frame Shorthorns. They are the prettiest cattle breed in existence IMO

My first stop at the county fair is the Milking shorthorn stalls. I breeze past the others and start with them. Even the Jerseys can't catch my eye like those big red and white girls.
Pretty.
I'd take one in a heartbeat.

Milking Shorthorns are the only cattle I own. If you can buy one, you will be pleased.

We have been cross breeding the holsteins and jerseys to short horns. I think they are the best, but can be a little stubborn though. But they are excellent mothers. And are about the best foragers next to the jerseys. And as far as milk production most of them can stand side by side with the holstein breed.

Thanks! I guess it will now just be a waiting game to see if the guy sells his land; I found out he's going to sell them when he moves, which is contingent upon selling his property. I am sending good realty juju his way

I'm going this weekend to pick up a half dozen Milking Shorthorn bottle babies. Has anyone ever tried to raise these and sale them at market? I've heard the steer calves grow out real well as beefers.

Wish I could find them affordably around here. The one Shorthorn dairy that is near here raises most of their steers. They are nice and beefy. He has sold many to be trained as oxen. The rest are usually sold as breeding bulls since his is a registered show and milk herd.
