Bottles Everywhere

I had to bottle feed one of my calves. To me if you are going to bottle feed one, you might was well bottle feed a few. So I went to the sale and found a highly unusual bumper crop of beef calves due to the drought. These calves were pulled off their mothers at the sale. Mom went to slaughter (no grass). I wish I had grass to take mom and the calf, but I am short on grass as well. So here is a picture of the gang.

All are healthy and doing well.

You are one lucky son of a gun. I was looking for beefer type calves earlier this year and couldn't find any. So I have a bunch of dairy guys and gals.
Good looking bunch of calves!

Well I guess that just shows location is everything. I would love to find a nice dairy heifer to raise for a nurse cow, but all the Dairy Barns in our area are out of business, and I can't find one.

We were lucky to find the four heifer calves we found. They are in abundence around here but no one sells them. All the dairies keep them as replacements for the most part. Now dairy bull calves can be found, but even they are not cheap.

I got lucky and ran into one of the people who sold a couple of the calves I bought. It turns out the black heifer is half black angus and half holstein.

The real catch is that the black bull calf is a 7/8ths registered black angus. For whatever reason the calf was really pulling the cow down so the guy decided to sell him.

If he turns out nice, he may be my next bull.

Oooo, I've had those before and they can do either/or. I've milked them and they were very satisfactory and they raise awesome beef calves.
