New to the site.... Intro.....

Hi! I am fairly new to the site, and thought I'd introduce myself..... My name is Michelle..... I have been married for 8 1/2 years..... My husband, Scott has 3 boys (20, 18, 16)..... the boys all live with us.... The oldest is attending our local community college while working part time.... the other 2, I home school.... actually our 18 yr old is graduating next week..... the youngest has another year.... We live in Central PA.....

We got started about 2 years ago with farming..... My husband got a job working for a friend who's company builds, repairs, sells silo's, gutter cleaners, etc, etc.... So we ventured out of our relm of normal and bought a holstien bull calf.... It didn't take me long to fall in love with the joys of farming..... By the end of that July we had 4 bull calves.... We banded them, etc.... Raised them for about 17 months and butchered..... YUM! I love knowing where our beef came from......

We have added to our little farm here..... We now have 5 white faced herefords ( 1 bull, 4 heifers ), we're hoping they breed..... 2 jersey steer about 9 months old, we will raise them for butcher..... 1 brown swiss steer about 8 months old.... We've agreed to keep him on as a pet..... He had a very rough begining and it is taking him forever to gain weight.... although as of late he has become the little porker..... These cattle are all out grazing on about 8 acres of beautiful grass..... We also have a big bank barn, that we have holstein heifers in.... these girls we get paid to raise for another farmer.... I love it.... we get them just about 2 - 3 weeks off milk replacer, and have them for about 4 months.... then they leave and a new shipment comes in.....

We also have 20 chickens ( 1 rooster, 19 hens ).... 1 goat.... 1 dog.... 2 rabbits....6 outside cats..... 1 inside cat..... and 2 inside cockatiels.....

I am hoping to learn a lot from this site.... and to add a little of what I already know to those who need it.....

Welcome. Just remember to take all advise here with a grain of salt. Best advise is that which is endorsed by multiple posts.
