AI Training At Home

I found a DVD today from Cattle Today to learn how to AI from home. The price is $199.00. I am just wondering if anyone has heard or can provide any feedback as to whether or not this information can be taught remotely and if the price is justifiable.

Not having seen the DVD, I can't say how much help it will be. I took a three day course that ABS sponsored years ago. They checked us out, every try we made to see if the straw was where it was supposed to be. It helps to have an experienced technician there when you are learning. I wouldn't invest a lot of money in equipment until I found out how well I got along. It takes a lot of patience and a really lot of practice. Good luck. Hope you get along great!!!!

Genex has on their site, numbers and some info of AI "classes". They will come out to your farm to teach you.

As suggested above, I would contact Genex or the Select Sires Company and find out the cost of their 2 or 3 days AI school programs. Also find out when these courses will be offered in your area. Frankly, I think the $199 sounds a little high priced for a DVD. I feel the AI schools offered by the major AI companies are a better value.

The local state college had a 3 day hands on course for under $90.
You really can't get a feel for it without hands on.
We also learned what a bred cow feels like too.

Yeah, I had thought about getting the DVD if it gave me as much information as I could possibly use and then try to work with the vet or AI tech to get some hands on. I'll probably just call the AI tech and see what we can work out.

Thanks for all the insight!

Had the guy from 21st century out to teach me years back. Course we had a large herd and used a bunch of their semen. Best to get a real body teaching. They can double check your placement. Answer your questions.
