One PO'd Cow

My Highland cow is really PO'd at me. She has one 30" high electric line keeping out of the fresh grass in the rest of the pasture. Every morning when I bring hay to her hay box she stares at me, then at the pasture, then at me, etc. Finally she heaves a heartfelt sigh and goes for the hay. The rest of the day I can feel her eyes on me whenever I go outside. She only has 8 or 10 days of hay left, then she can go on the fresh grass. It will nice to not have those accusing eyes on me all the time. I do love the simple life!

When we were milking, I never liked the first taste in the spring of green grass milk.

Now I sort of miss it :baby04:

Just 8 or 10 more days, and you get to have some green grass milk!

When I was a kid, the first day out on pasture was called 'Jail Break!'. Even the oldest and tiredest dairycows would kick up their heels and twirl around. It was a big event, cars would pull off the road just to watch the excitement.

That's usually May 1st up here...called 'Turn Out Day'... my cow's anxious for that, too. She'll be tethered in her pasture that isn't fenced yet. She's used to that, tho'...happens every year. Start her out at about 2-3 hrs. only or she bloats up!

Grass is growing nicely here, should be able to turn the heifers out to pasture by the first week of May, as long as it continues to grow as it is. Usually by May 15th hay can be cut, but this year it looks more like the 21st or even later.

Mine are lucky then. I turned them out on a small patch last weekend. The main pasture is still off limits though and they are sure eyeing it up.
The calves are getting tethered around the farm anywhere that looks green and they sure like that.
