Milk Mailbox Price

Anyone see the projection for next fall? Orginially it was 17.50, now its 19.50, with premiums on top of that, it will be 20+ for some. Now if grain comes down, it will be good for farms next fall. However, once that hits the top, the projection for it to drop back to 17.50 is fairly quick, but still a good price. I will have 10 milking by December 1st, maybe more if the other cow would settle. But at 10, still will be healthy. The following fall, if everything goes well, ill have 18 milking, and of course by then, prices will probably be down.

Either way, a good healthy price forecasted.

I have always thought if a farmer raises his own corn, then market corn prices dont matter. I mean market corn prices dont dictate the cost to plant it. Even if corn is $4, the cost to raise it doesnt change. Do you raise your own corn? You are basically selling replacement heifers, aren't you? I forget.

No to both. I will be raising heifers to sell, once I get things more established. But nope, we dont raise our own corn, so I have to go with what the market does.

I wouldn't count on corn prices coming down much any time soon, due to the ethanol plants going in and sucking up the supply.

Maybe you want to become a grass dairy?

Hopefully distillers come down, due to the ethanol plants, it is a byproduct of corn.

Corn has actually came down. It dropped $.40 in three days last week. It's not under $3 yet, but its not far away. I haven't checked markets lately though. It was near $3.50 last I knew. If this weather keeps on like it is it will go down more.
It use to be a guy could buy corn cheaper than he could produce it himself. This corn price high will make it more expensive to produce. Fertelizer, rent, and seed will cost more so your not really making more money, but just passing the buck.
Not sure if milk futures will reach $19. Would be nice though! I'll have to look at the last check to see what we are getting.
