Nice UpNorth. Bought 7 head today, 5 springers and 2 fresh heifers, for a total of $4825 Canadian. So a shade under $600 US average. Prices are up a bit because there are some buyers trying to fill a big order for Russia.

I'd be curious what the average registered stock selling price is. Last spring it was down by $1000, compared to 2005. Seeing how milk has gone up some, grain coming back some, be curious how things pan out. I know im going to an auction locally, some top cattle from local farms are selling there. Id love to pick up a couple that are going to calve in June from that place, but I doubt it will happen.

I heard at an auction near me this past week the high cow was $3400 (r &w holstein) and the average was $2600 or $2700, I forget which. I guess someone really wanted a red and white in their barn. The herd was generally black and white. These were good free stall cows that went to another freestall barn. Increasing milk prices always cause this kind of idiocy.

I paid about $1350 average last fall for heifers, some spring, some three months or so away.

R&W's are in high deman, their value has gone up since the breed has a better selection of bulls. With bulls like Advent, and Talent coming on to the scene along with many others. It renewed interest in R&W's. Will the interest die? I doubt it, I do know this, R&W's might be the same breed, but they do have totally different personalities than the B&W version, they seem smarter.
