Question Parasite Control & Winter Feeding Leftovers

How do you clean up all of the winter hay and manure around the bale ring? We are wondering if a rock rake would dig down through the packed hay.

Once you loosen it up what do you do with it? Where do you put it that it doesn't become a hatchery for flies...which is why we're cleaning up the feeding areas.

A loader with a good set of manure tines works well.

I haul mine out to the garden and till it in. Or if there is more hay than manure just throw it on top of my potatoes once it's spread out and dried it doesn't seem to have the fly problem.

I pile mine (manure and hay both) about a foot thick on the sorriest, rockiest piece of ground I can find on my place. Next year, that sorry piece of ground is knee deep in bermuda grass!
