Baby Heifers (may be for sale)

Four out of the five of my girls have calved this week. So far, we're 50/50. Two bulls, and two heifers. The two heifers are 1/2 jersey,1/4 holstein, 1/4 angus. One is solid chocolate with a jersey head. The other is chocolate with white spots and a jersey head. I'm probably not going to keep them. But I'd like to keep them on their moms awhile. Both mothers will let me handmilk them. Let me know if you have any interest or PM me for any details.

I'm thinking around $400 or so at two months of age. What do you think?

That sounds pretty good. The problem I see with it, is that I don't wean or buy weaned animals before they are at least three months of age. At two months old, they are unlikely to take the bottle if they've been on their mothers. So selling them then would be weaning them most likely. Just curious as to why you chose two months as the selling date?? I am more in the market for young bottle calves, as I am throwing away good calf-growing goat milk right now. Your probably way to far away anyway, just curious at this point.

Ok, news to me. I never wean *anything* before three months. As do all the dairy farmers in the area. So I guess that would be a problem for me, but not for some people....interesting.

I wean at two months as well. By that time they are well and truely eating grass and any supplementary feeds so as long as worm burden is kept to a minimum and they are given the best feed available, no reason why they shouldn't do well.

Cheers,
Ronnie

We wean around two months. They are on Primer 1 free choice and that helps them grow out well.
With goats, we don't wean before three months though. But raising a large number of bottle babies is new in our goating experience.

Well, everyone does things differently. I have discovered that a whole three months on milk always gives the calves a better start than two months.
And no, I *refuse* to raise :1pig: :1pig: :1pig: .

I'll try to post pics as soon as I can. Problem is, we've got very slow dia-up at the house and it takes forever to upload from the computer to photobucket. And I do mean "forever". I've got some pics on the wife's camera of the little girls. I'll just have to remember to take it and the cord to work with me where photo transferring can be done at 21st century speed!

I have found that editing the file size of the picture makes it alot faster on the dial up, tho it may effect picture quality.
