Tip - Storing Square Based Hay on Ground

Did something different this year. I bought one of those el-cheapo gray plastic tarps and spread it on the ground floor in the barn. Then stacked up hay on it. Bottom ones have no deteriation due to ground contact. And, when last of hay is used up, cleaning area will be as simply as grabbing the four corners and dragging it outside. Don't see why this tarp shouldn't be good for a number of years.

We stored square bales in our carport one year. It has a cement floor so we put down plastic then pallets and put the hay on them. When it was all gone the hay seeds were swept up and thrown back into the pasture.

I have a vinyl carport with pallets on the floor for my square bales. Roof blew off this year, so had to get a tarp to cover the bales with till I can get another roof, IF I can get one!
