This is why I love Normandes

This is why I love Normandes - Cattle

We are in the middle of a blizzard. I got this picture during a lull in the snow this morning. All of the other heifers are hunkered down in the barn and my Normande heifer is out munching on a round bale like nothing is going on. I have noticed this with my other Normandes as well. They have a much higher threshold for what they consider to be bad weather. They are always the last critters to seek shelter.

She's probably wondering why the others don't come out.

Hey, Heather, that's a great fence! Wanna come here and build some for me? I've got to get busy next spring and redo some.

Do you have any scientific data to back up this hypothesis?

Beefers are like that, and since normandes are considered a beef breed over in Europe, makes sence why they dont mind the snow. During the storm here that dumped 30" to as much as 42" in some areas west of here on Valentines day. The only time the dairy went out in it, the heifers, was to grab a quick bite then back in they went. The beefers during that storm didn't even like it. But it was 5 out, snow was coming down hard, with a strong north wind. I mean 30" between 7am and 7pm is a lot of snow. Actually everything was hunkered down. But overall, beefy breeds can take the cold.
