First taste of Raw milk

Warm from the cow--

only issue I had was--

i have gotten used to 1% or 2% fat levels-- so the whole milk was very rich --almost like melted ice cream....

but it sure did taste good--

Comparing fresh whole raw milk to the store bought knock-off is about like comparing an organically grown vine ripened tomato to one of those red rubber balls called by the same name at the market.

I like it warm, I like it cold, I'll even drink it old and soured, though rarely ever lasts long enough around here to get soured.

Well, I had to find some way to compare the texture!!!-- It kinda reminded me of a very long time ago at my grandmothers-- but I cant remember what kind of container her refrigerated milk was in--- I don't rmemebr cows on her property-- but I do remember chickens!!!

Depends.

What are you storing it in? How cold is your refrigerator? What other things are you keeping in the fridte?

We don't keep milk past 3 days and then it goes to the hogs. But the milk hasn't gone bad - we have a cow and just get more fresh!

Our customers have told us the flavor may change about 1.5-2 weeks time. It's not undrinkable, just tastes more like the whole milk you get from the store at that time.

My wife and I store our milk in the frig in a glass container with a bottom spout. After the cream rises the milk off the bottom is about 1/2%. For the children we store it whole and shake it before we serve it to them. They get the whole 4%. They tend to burn it off better then we do./RA

We do and feel much the same thing, except, if it gets a few days old, we set it on the kitchen counter until it separates, and then we make cottage cheese, the hogs, the poor dears, only get the whey. The pigs get the bulk of the butter milk left over from butter making too: I love it, Herself doesn't care for it, and I can't drink it all; I try, but I can't.

Speaking of hogs, my good son and I butchered a 450# pounder today. :baby04: Tomorrow we'll have the families get together and grind it into sausage; well, all but the best of the bacon, and the boned out pork chops. We have one more of last year's hogs still out there, and she'll push 500#; we don't have freezer space for her just yet, but when the kids say they are ready, we'll grind into her sausage for them.
