sick calf ?

I'm not sure what is wrong if anything is wrong with this calf.

We went out to do chore tonight and this little calf (about 200#) was standing around scrunched up and and shivering. I also noticed his hair is thick and shaggy. DH says the calf stands around a lot but tonight is the first he has noticed his shivering.

Do we have anything to worry out? We've put 50 calves through here and this is the first time I have noticed this.....

It sounds like a case of "cold stress" which is the calf's way to deal with hypothermia.

I'd put the calf in a warm dry area.....even use an old electric blanket for added warmth if you have one available. And give him electrolyte's too.

Have you wormed him? Is he eating? I've only got a couple here but none have any thick and shaggy hair yet. It's cooling down but not that bad so far. If he were here I would most likely give him some penicillin or LA200 or something to give him a boost. Couldn't hurt really......
