Talking 2 bred cows $700

Well I went to the sale this weekend. I wanted a cow and calf pair, but I didn't see any I liked.

So I picked up 2 herford cows. Both are about 7-years old. The were sold as short-mouthed, but both are fat. We checked their teeth and they weren't too bad. Both have good bags.

Anyway one is 3 1/2 months bred and the other is 4 1/2 months along. I got both for $700. I hope calf prices stay high to I can make my money back on the 2 cows end of summer next year.

Great Buy!

Sounds like a really good buy! Get them through the winter and you should be fine! I am looking for a similar opportunity, but was hoping for some cows to have fall calves....still looking.

Actually I should be able to take on one more for the winter. I have enough hay to take 20 head through the winter plus we just changed pastures. The new pasture should take us into Sept even without rain.

The drought has put prices down here in the tank. Many are selling out entirely and choosing to put their hay on the market. I saw plenty of cows selling that were 6 or 7 months bred. If the cow was healthy and 4 to 5 years old, they were bringing $600 to $750 each. The same quality cow was $900 5 months ago. So keep your eyes open and you will find a deal.
