Cattle reproduction formula's

Not being the finest math wizard I was wondering if anyone had a simple formula for cattle reproduction. Meaning if I started with 3 heifers and they had 3 heifers I would have 6 (got that). But the calves can't reproduce until year 2. So the next year I have 6 cows but 3 calves. Ok. Next year I have 6 calves. My math starts failing quickly from here. Any help?

Today you buy 3 young calves.

In 1 year you have 3 heifers 1 year old.

In 2 years you have 3 cows and 3 calves.
1 heifer and 2 bulls.

In 3 years you have 3 cows 1 yearling and 2 calves.
1 heifer; 1 bull and 1 still born.

In 4 years you have 4 cows 1 yearling and 3 calves.
1 cow was culled; 2 heifers and 1 bull.

In 5 years 4 cows 2 yearlings and 4 calves.
2 heifers and 2 bulls.

In 6 years you go broke so you sell the cows and get a real job.

OK I know. My math is worse than yours. LOL

This is a lot of what happens and when you try to tell people. They think what do you mean. They think they will do much better than that,
because they try to count there calves before there cows produce.

Raising cattle for a profit is really more of a hobby, even if you have a lot of money. The cost of maintaining those cows will eat up the money made off of the calves. You have to have a bunch of cattle and do real good just to break even, on the money invested.

Time and money invested is huge and money invested is huge.

If you started off with 3 heifers and they had 3 heifers, you would have 3 cows and 3 heifers. The next year if you are lucky and your 3 cows had 3 more heifers then you would have 3 cows & 6 heifers. The thing is if you want heifers you'll get Bulls!!!

Your not going to get that many heifers, about half will be bulls.

And having a bull is dangerous you have to feed it and he is a waste of money. Artificial insem is way cheaper.
