Where to Get Milking Equipment

There must be some place other than Lehman's, eh? I'm not looking for the milking machines, I want things such as milk pails and milk cans and strainers. Things like that. Where do y'all buy them?

We buy from Nasco way too much. Find the prices are OK and the service is great.

Last couple of purchases:
Laying nests-plastic
Chicken leg catchers
Dart gun
Bridle racks

Never had a problem in 5 years

I like Hoegger Supply Company. They mainly focus on goats, but have things for cows, too. Small family owned business, the service is awesome, they have always answered my questions in a very friendly manner. They have always been willing to help. I feel treated like a person when I call them, not a potential profit.

TSC for the big stainless steel buckets. Hoegger's has the best price for strainers. I use "chili pots" from wally world for rising cream....nice enamel, cheap enough to replace if they chip.

Look at the Goodwill for a lid that fits your bucket. The ones that come with lids are OUTRAGEOUSLY priced.

I've used Hoegger's before and recommend it to anyone. Ebay is a hit or miss thing, they usually have strainers, etc., but the price goes up way too fast. Knowing now what I wish I knew then, I'd have gone to freecycle.org, linked to the one in our area, and put out a request. There is also a marketplace site that is very similar to freecycle. In our area it is

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlagstaffMarketPlace/

I gather it is the same yahoo main group link with a different city name before the market place (e.g. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chicagoMarketPlace/).

We live in a very non milking community except for goats and I've seen an ad for milking equipment on one of the posts in the last week.

I use part dept for stuff like that, since I am in NY, they are in CT it is close to me. The help is really good there, and willing to help. Had a small problem with a motor from one of their milkers, thought it was the motor going bad. They were going to send one because of the problem, we send the other one back. Took the motor up to a place that rebuilds them, turned out it was a loose wire. So didn't need the other motor, but they were going to send it next day on their cost. Good company IMO, and that one milker I have (even though you aren't looking for one), is very reliable, can milk 4 cows at once.

Thanks for the info, all! I wasn't finding much on my own and had resolved to put an ad in the penny saver with crossed fingers. Nasco is saved to favorites and I'm looking for the Parts Dept store.

Caprine Supply is also a good source. (www.caprinesupply.com) As you can see by the name, they're mostly geared to goats, but they do have the ss milk pails in several sizes, as well as strainers, filters, and even small milking machines if anyone needed one for a small dairy. They're also a family owned supply company. I've ordered several things over the years, and they always give good, prompt service.
