Truly Majestic animals. Throw Mel Gibson wearing a Kilt in the Photo and you'd swear you were just Outside of Glasgow, LOL.

What a beautiful animal. Congrats!!

I have heard that the Highlanders are more aggressive than the Dexters, is this true? My hubby and I may be buying some property in about 12 to 18 months and are trying to do all of our research now so we will be ready to get rollin' when the time comes. We have been leaning towrds the Dexters doue to their temperment. We want our farm to be kid freindly. Any advice is welcome and greatly appreciated.

She sure is CUTE! And her mother is GORGEOUS! CONGRATS on both of them! So, are you keeping her? Does she have a name yet? Details please, purty please (I need a pouting puppy dog eyed smiley right now, does anyone know where to find one? ).

Update

Officially her name will be Tranquility, but for daily use our 5 y/o DGD named her Tahlia after a friend from preschool. Beth is an excellant mother, gets upset when the kid wanders more than 15 feet from her and calls her back. We missed the birth, but she must have laid down the law to the alpaca that shares the pasture with her because he stays WAY far away from her. It will be a long time before he gets within spitting distance of her, if ever.
Most highlands are quite docile and manageable (when they aren't defending a newborn, though Beth is letting be get within 6 ft of the baby) but any breed will have some exceptions. Beth has never taken a shine to me, so I do have to be on my guard with her as those horns have a long reach. All of her kids have been very friendly and easy to handle and Tahlia has already exhibited those fine qualities.
No animal is safe around small children, and I mean that both ways. Little kids move too fast, have no understanding of the animals and are small and clumsy. I never allow my DGD in with any of our animals by herself, not even the chickens. Even a 125 lb alpaca can deliver a fatal kick to a small child, let alone 1000 lbs of beef with a five foot horn spread.
I really enjoy my highlands, maybe you can tell?

Great looking calf, congrats!
We have Highlands and Dexters and Dexters are more tractable. Highlands are more defensive mothers. Our Dexters may get antsy about us handling their calves but they don't try to skewer us.

Wonderfull looking baby girl !! congrats !!
If I could keep them that small and adorable to sell I would be a millionare !!
We have six on the ground .. and 7 more to go , all heifers but one .. a little silver bull calf , whom my DD has tentatively christened Grey Ghost
Saddly this will be the last year for his mamma .. she is upwards of 18, was one of my foundation cows .. and has been steadily decreasing her milk supply over the years .. I dont think grey ghost is getting much milk as he isnt growing well .. he will be weaned early and I think old lily will become ground beef after that. sad to see that happen but the time has come .

any way fine looking little red heifer ..

18 years that's wonderful! I'll bet that bull calf is pretty. I'd really like to get a black highland but I haven't seen many of them.
