Calf on pasture - need supplements??

We recently bought a weaned heifer calf (about 3 months old, beef cross). She is on a pasture w/ bermuda grass and some assorted weeds, foxtails etc. There is plenty of grass. She came right off her momma and squaked for a couple days, but now seems to be eating good.

Of course she'll come a runnin for some hay or grain, but do we need to supplement her at this stage in her life??

It really depends on what you are looking for as to growth rate.
Why did you buy her and when do you expect to breed her ?????

She is at a age (3 months) where she will survive without extra feed but will benefit from some.

A dairy farmer would feed her till 9 months old but he is looking for maximum growth so she can be breed at 15 months old.
A beef farmer would have left her with mom till she was about 8 to 10 months old.

If it were me I would give her some grain for at least the next 3 months so she can put on some weight to make it through the winter better.

How many acres of land (kind of lush) does it take to maintain one, two , or three cows?
