I had a cow and a heifer. They were hardy creatures. They were to be my milkers, but, despite my best efforts, they were too wild for me to handle. I sold them last summer. They're not common in the U.S.--most are in Canada. There are some U.S. breeders. Check the Canadian Cattle Breeders' Association website for a (short) list: www.clrc.ca/canadiancattle.shtml. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy ( www.albc-usa.org) has a breeder guide that also lists a few people.
