Found one!!

Well tonight I brought home the little holstein bull calf! He's 3-4 weeks old and growing really well so far. I only had to pay $180 which I know is high but better than the $250 the other guy wanted! HHAA! But I think that's worth it considering that a 3 day old was going to be $175. I'll keep ya all posted as he's going to be raised on goats milk just like my little jersey heifer. Once I figure out how I'll post some pics for ya all. See ya later!

Congrats,

You got a very good price.

Now would be a good time to turn your bull into a steer. I prefer bands, but you will find many others that say to cut them.

If freezer beef is the goal, holsteins will develope a "hay belly" if he is on grass only. Some grain each day makes some nice steaks.

Good luck

Holsteins grow quickly, get big, and will be good for meat. The bull calf we have we will raise for just that, meat, unless someone wants him for bull use.

A lot of folks recomend not cutting/banding/steering the calf for at least 6 months to help the growth rate. If you are raising him for meat and are careful of him, you may not need to steer him at all.
