A silly onion-y ? :o)

If you have a lot of wild onion in your acreage...will it affect the taste of the milk from your cow?
(I would think it would...but would like to know for sure.)

Feelin' silly...

It might. Ever read the book 'Perfume'? Over here, we have sheep that are set out to graze on salt marshes close to the seaside....the meat is called 'presalted'.

onions, leeks, or turnips can affect taste of milk, but shouldn't affect quality or safety. Dairy Plants will balk if the onion flavor becomes too strong, but this is not common. When our cows graze turnips in late fall, gives milk a twinge of sharp flavor. Adds character.

Yes it will. Wild Garlic is the worst though......The taste bothers some people a lot and some don't mind. To me, wild garlic makes the milk just plain nasty. Not garlicky...nasty! It smells like garlic, but tastes different altogether. We just live with it in the early spring. The garlic is the first grass to grow, after the good grasses start growing, we don't have a problem anymore. You can use it in some cooking and nobody will notice. Don't use it for hot chocolate......
