You might try a search for Dutch Belted cows and see what comes up in your area.

And no, I haven't deen them up close and personal, but I've talked with a couple of owners that really liked them.

Otherwise known as Belted Galloways (not positive of the spelling). We used to pass a herd up in VT but I haven't seen them in a few years. Our neighbor has a half dozen.

Dutch Belts are not the same as Belted Galloway. Dutch Belts are dairy cows. I had two of them a few years back. My neighbor lady just bought 2 Belted Galloways. They are beef animals and are smaller than the Dutch Belts. I would attach a picture of the Dutch Belts I had if I knew how to attach pictures!

Thanks. Ever since I saw them on tv I've tried to find one here in WV but nothing has came up. I hope to find a good cow and bull one day.

I got mine from a guy near the Michigan/Indiana border. There use to be some herds in Illinois too. The Dutch Belt Cattle Association has all the registered farmers. I don't have address handy but can try to locate it for you if you like.

Hot dang! Learn something new every day. I didn't realize there were belted milk cows. I've only ever encountered the beefers. I thought the Galloways were originally a dual purpose breed. I wonder if they've split into the beef and milk breeds from one breed. Time to go do a little research!

We have two dutch belties. It is mother and her calf from spring. She is a modest milker in our herd, fairly calm, and decent cow. Her calf is an absolutee doll ( also a spoiled pain in the rear). We get semen through taurus to AI them. I think they would make great family cows. No they're really not for sale at the moment.

The BIL of the farmer we bought our Guernsey from has a few in his herd and I visited a farm who had a few plus a red Dutch Belted bull. They are pretty expensive to buy here (NE Ohio).

Perhaps try the Amish?

My original milk cow, Dawnna, was bred to a bull that was a Jersey-Guernsey-Belted cross.

Around here, Belted have a reputation for being kind of high-strung. Don't know whether it's really deserved or not.

There is a big Belted Galloway farm on M-66 near McBain (MI).

I know a guy up north here who used to have some Belties - best fence jumpers of the dairy breeds he has ever had! Anjou's are the beef breed fence jumpers.
