Homestead and Vancouver -- pretty much off topic

Boucher Lake Road Log Cabin -- 60 miles west and north of mile zero of Alaska highway:

It's been around 50 F during the day, 34 F at night. Potatoes and beans froze last week: harvested.

It's been raining today, and around 45 acres of hay-oat crop is cut (the oats didn't freeze); they should be OK: just cut them, then rained; should bale by next weekend -- depends. The other 10 acres of hay-oats are baled and beautiful green and dry.

We have had the Blaze King on for the last month, of course some days were hot -- she cut herself back to a slow burn, but most nights have been down to 40Fs, so a little heat has been nice, and with the on and off rain, she takes the chill off -- peaceful really.

Firewood all stacked and covered -- with air circulation; we need to get that new wood shed built. Not now. Need to site the two new 16 x 16 sheds we skidded from the neighbors -- a gift.

You know what? We filled the pickup with wood, put it in 4WL, and low and pushed with the tractor -- to get it started -- then that's how we got them down the road. How about that -- a truck ad?

And we have to disassemble part of a log building and skid (in November) the pine logs back, also a gift -- about 3/4 mile -- for an addition of another bedroom to our log cabin. Dry pine logs, just the right length, tightly fitted and notched, 12" diameter by up to 30' long, much easier than falling, peeling, and fitting!

Vancouver

Well what can I say, we had to come back to Vancouver for a while. It's near perfect weather -- not near perfect in other ways: 68 F day, sunny light breeze from English Bay, 50 F at night, no rain for days.

That was no little cold front...temp drops over 24hrs of 20F+ and rain totals over 6 inches in parts of MN...

We've been very warm but since the 3inch rainfall that has flooded roads and interesections has come to pass, its suppose to fall into the 70's for the next week. Lows in the upper 40's.

Storms went through last night. Today it was around 65, which is probably one of the coolest day time highs we've had for awhile. Last week was in the 80's, it was 99 at the state fair on the 3rd. Tomorrow they are saying low 70's.

Here in the Black Hills it was 36 this morning at 9:00 and is 60 now. But last week it was 70+ overnight and 96+ during the day! Our garden is already done, frosted heavy the Thursday before Labor Day.

Just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park..at 7800', we had snow showers today. A cold front came through and dropped us down to a high of the 50's early then now in the upper 30's.

Yesterday it was in the 70's and it will warm back up to that in a day or two. Heck the aspens are just starting to turn.

Snow in the mountains. I hate what it means, but it sure is pretty. Here just east of the foothills, we've had frost, but the days are nice.

About 50 miles NE of Seattle. Nights dip into the low 40's, goodbye tomatoes, days in 60's to upper 70's, like today. Sunny, warm with just a hint of crispness. My favorite time of year. Anything above 75 is my idea of Hell. Clouded over tonight so maybe rain in the early AM, which is great for the meadow mushrooms.

Central Maine is seeing daytime temps in the 70's and nighttime in the 50's. I'm expecting to see a possible frost with the coming full moon. Maybe-maybe not. The season is slowing turning cooler. We've really had beautiful weather lately.

I'm in central New York in the heart of Lake Effect Country. It had been nice over the last month - seventies mostly, with a couple of cold days - the last two days - upper eighties. Ugh.

However, it's supposed to cool down to the low seventies / high sixties again. I'm enjoying it while it's here, because I know how much I hate the single digits with negative windchill when winter comes along.

We had some thunderstorms last night with a cold front, but our temps are expected to be in the 80s for highs, & the high 60s-low 70s for lows.

Here in NW Oregon the weather is changing slowly. Last week I believe we got down to a low of 43 when the rain came in. Today we are suppose to have a high of 75 and lows in the high 40's.

As much as I love summer, I am ready for the cold weather to come. The more freezes and snow the better. Old timers around here say that winter is going to be cold and extra wet this year. Hmmm, wonder what extra wet means to people outside of the Pacific Northwest? lol

Our creek is rising earlier this year, and I predict in another month we will be driving through water to leave our property...I love it!

Here in mid coast maine..........

highs in the 70's, lows in the 40's.... with a few more extreme days in either direction. Shouldn't see any snow until November, I hope. Frost will be soon.

Here it was 42 F when I went outside at 7:00 this morning. Our sunflowers leaves were drooping as if hit by frost. The tomatoes were still okay though. Strange. I wouldn't be surprised if we are hit by frost within the next week. Weather reports are looking into the 50s at night, though. *fingers crossed* DH isn't done with the hoophouse yet, and my green beans are just now coming on for the fall.

Wink

96 degrees and windy today, but I didn't even start my air on the last couple hot days. Comfortably cool in the shade, and it cools down nicely at night. Most area schools have been dismissing early for the heat all week. A cold front is supposed to be coming through tonight bringing highs in the 70's for as far out as they have the predictions. Looks like it wants to strom right now.
