Thank you Hayzor. This is a trickle-up situation. The way our gov. is set up. And homeland security was very careful not to rush in and terrify the people of the usa into thinking it was all powerful ( I have a reserved opinion on this part). The one that was the loudest demanding Fed. Asst. was the Mayor of NO. Where was he the last few days??? I can tell you he was watching tv. Duh !
Another thought is that yes we want to donate money but since gas prices have doubled and food among other things is climbing in price, and a warning today that any thing made of petrol is going to go up, where can I get this money from my budget?? We are as a family sending a box to the Salvation Army in Biloxi - blankets and shoes.
Another thought is that so many of our cities have a huge population of the poor stuffed in one huge area. Evacuation plans need to be instituted for these areas. We also think that New Orleans had maybe 500,000 more people than they knew they had. Probably true of every big city. Sapphira

Did you ever thin about just not watching presidential news confrences? Works for me. I can always do something productive with the time.

wow

I like GW. Hated Clinton. I've grown to like clinton since he's been out of office. I never figured that I would agree with George on many things but I've learned that I'm probably more independent than right leaning, although my left friends think I'm an extremist.
If you can show me anyone who knew this was going to happen I'll show you a liar. When I heard about Katrina I blew it off cause it was only a cat1.
As it progressed, EVERY one was told to get out now!!!! We all know that Louisiana is one of the poorest states in the nation, if not the poorest.
Caunucklehead; I'm really tired of anyone outside this country saying they wish bush wasn't president. I haven't been to Canada in 15 years and I live less than an hour from there. I wish you would get better leaders. I agree with everthing else you said though. Keep on speaking your mind. Everyone has a right to opinion.
lilyrose you're right about only some people are looting and shooting etc. But they are someones kids, brothers, and sisters, moms and dads. Someone knows those scumbags. The problem is that nobody stands up and speaks out about those people. They are tolerated because the masses down there tolerate them. Have we heard al sharpton rant about them shooting someones child who is trying to help them.....no... jesse Jackson?...no... where is the will to stop that behavior. They are sitting back silent. They are vultures waiting for the right moment to feed.Where is there money?
Labrat / I've been wondering for 5 years why we Bush hasn't pushed for alternative energy programs too! its way beyond time. We need to build refineries now. eliminate the red tape and if necessary sidestep the environmental issues to get it done. National security is at risk without them. We need more solar now. If motorhomes and boats can use wind why can't every car, bus, and train? why not put a small tower next to evry house? We don't need Giant windfarms that only benefit the Europeans that sell them. We tax cigarettes and alcohol firearms. Why not Tax SUV's that get 10 miles to the gal. Time to take comprehensive measures that make a difference. Lets drill more oil. give big tax breaks to businesses that offer childcare. It's time to solve problems. This morning gas was 3.09...this afternoon it was 3.50
