Supply and demand. Didn't any of ya'll take econ in school? What makes prices go up? When supply cannot meet the demand. The more we demand, the higher it goes.
Maybe if we all take a deep breath, hold it and count to a million, then slowly exhale, we'll all be calmer, and the gas prices will go down while you're all expiring.
Really, the more we panic, the worse it gets.
Down south is a different story. Those folks really are looking out no gas being available. Makes my $2.69-$3/gal. look perdy good to me. Better than none at all.
My 14 year old daughter suggested we go back to horse-and-buggy.

I told my son that if he went courting, he'd have to use the mule and a buggy - boy did I get
But I think he kinda understands that the cost of dating just went way up!! (PS - he isn't allowed to date yet, but is anticipating!! He's just 15 and no dating here allowed until he is 16, so he's got about 6 months to go and he's getting antsy..)
I am kinda scared for all you northerners that rely on heating fuel for such a long time during the winter, I worry that prices are going to be very high. Thank goodness I have wood and a wood heater and wood cookstove, but I'd be a wreck if I lived up in NY or somewhere where winter hits in Nov. and lasts till April..
I would seriously think about installing wood heat if possible (I know that isn't possible for everyone), but if you can, I would!

Just got back from town and thought I'd share with y'all what is going on in my little corner of Northwest Mississippi. Yesterday we got gas at the truck stop for $2.42 for regular unleaded. Today it is $2.99.
Wal Mart was COVERED UP...cars lined up on the highway waiting to get in. Guess what? The gas at Wal Mart is $2.47 for regular unleaded.

My Mother works for CITGO and things are looking grim for the next couple weeks, maybe longer...Between no oil from the refineries that supply the eastern markets and a major pipeline that is in the process of being repaired(possibly with nothing to pump when it is fixed)prices are expected to continue to climb.
Get your gas now and try to conserve seems to be the cry of everyone everywhere.
Even the small independent station above my house has traffic backed up east and west with people waiting to fill up- and he's usually the most expensive around here.
I'm hearing there may be another $.30 hike overnight.
At any rate, I'm sure this isn't anything ya'll don't already know. But, I'm throwin it in anyways...
Ya'll take care and be safe- it's gonna get crazy...
My prayers are with ya'll down in the gulf.

I think it's more like they haven't a lot of gas to sell (if any really)and they're trying to discourage people from buying from them...probably more the case really.

Here in southeastern NC gas has shot up to $2.89 to above $3. I bought gas yesterday just across the state line in SC for $2.49. The rumors are flying about stations running out of regular gas in this county and the neighboring one in SC. While I was at the local station this evening someone called wanting to know if there was a limit on the amount of gas they could purchase. They told the cashier that some places in Myrtle Beach, SC were begining to limit sales to a certain amount per customer. I can't verify this. I am mighty glad I still keep a span of mules, they may come in handy.

Canada has the largest proven oil deposits in the world, without exception.
The only problem we have is the extraction cost, about $25 a barrel, compared to $4 for the Saudies. With oil prices at $70 a barrel this is a non issue.
Why don't the Americans invade Canada???
Our military is pathetic, our oil free for the taking and our morality non-existant.

if people would calm down and think more rationally about this, what is causing the shortages is everyone getting in a panic and hoarding....
the way i understood it, this gas price increase was happening this week anyway, just happened to coincide with the hurricane.

How could you ever suggest " gouging"
No body but no body in the OIL busness would ever do that.
But I shure would like to put a size 13 into a bunch of corporate arses............and not gently.........
So w lets lose some fed oil,.....big deal....but a guy on the news said that theres no place for it to go what with the refines being down for awhile.
stay tuned

Gas Prices
$3.29 in NE IN - was $2.59. I hope this is just a blip in the road.
So very glad I work from home. Doing more walking that is for sure, dodging crazy drivers though.
Change their driving habits - Heck no, charge it!

Well, let me take a guess. One of those nice little democratic dictatorships south of our borders, maybe? The ones where the government is even scarier than our own? Where if you don't hand over your business to State ownership "willingly" you just disappear?
