I had the opposite experience. Bought a drive belt for about $25 at the JD parts dealer, and at the replacement parts store was over $40 in comparison.
I also had to buy one drive pulley heavy duty from JD parts dealer cost less than $30. It would have cost over $40 for a non JD replacement part.

dixie chopper hands down the fastest mower on the market. i have one of the extreme series and it is rated at 8.73 acres per hour. has a ft operated deck lift extra oil capapcity ztr and can mow knee high grass at 15 mph! my sister has 5 acres fenced in with a small 1/8 acre pond. Typical terraced land form days gone by of farming. some it is sloped pretty steep and I can mow it all in about 40 minutes. only ztr i have been on that will actually do a burn out like a car lol.

husqvarna makes a good product as well.
