i've read not to eat after 6 pm as well. drinking lots and LOTS of water with meals really helps me. but for me what works best is to not eat after 6.

DH has been rolaids/prilosec free (after 14+ YEARS of a 2 bottle a week habbit of rolaids and 2 years of prilosec) since the first day he started with organic apple cider vinegar. He also has changed his diet to practically eliminate sugar, salt, soda, msg...ect. some things he's already totally eliminated. He exercises daily, lost weight and helps with stress which he has a lot of in his job. OH and change your toothpaste to a natural type...we use peelu...he ran out of his peelu and bought some colgate and even the acv wasn't cutting the gurggles in his gut. Once he went back to the peelu, when i got it sent to him, (well w/in 2 days) his stomach was back to normal. He says he feels better than he has since he was 20 physically.

so: diet changes, exercise, and Braggs has done wonders for my husband not to mention a LOT cheeper overall than all them over the counter and script meds that only mask symptoms.

Actually, proton pump inhibitors do NOT mask symptoms. And if vinegar helps, you did not have gerd, but rather probably "achloridic dyspepsia" which means too little acid causing indigestion. But I assume with a diagnosis of gerd the person has had at least a barium swallow and ph monitoring, probably a full scope. True gerd is not so much a matter of how much acid but where. And it can kill. Just stopping the symptoms does NOT mean you aren't still burning out your lungs or causing cancer. As for me, I NEVER got heartburn, but still have class 3 or life threatening gerd. And while I sure do some lifestyle stuff, I am not about to stop the meds. That said, every case of heartburn is NOT gerd. For class one or two heartburn, lifestyle may be enough.

If you can find it, try drinking peppermint tea. I read somewhere that it's good for stomach problems. When I began having indigestion a few months ago, I started drinking peppermint tea after dinner. I used to drink black tea after dinner, but I like the peppermint so much that I rarely drink black tea anymore.

NO--not if you have bona fide acid reflux. Peppermint eases plain old indigestion by relaxing the lower esophageal sphincter. That means it just lets more acid up. Now, it works great if you just over ate, or have too LITTLE acid, or have bile indigestion. But mint is a big no no for acid reflux, as are chocolate and coffee, even decaf, and onions, as they also relax that valve.

.
Here is another thing I tried ( from the Holy Word Of God In The Bible ) that helped to relieve the pain and constant problem of acid reflux.

First Timothy 5:23: Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

I drank about 3 or 4 ounces of cheep grape wine in the evening after dinner.

It worked great.

I went to an allergist and found I was allergic to many different foods. Avoid them and I'm fine. Eat them and I suffer. The worst? MSG and soy products. So just about any processed food is going to cause me problems. I highly recomend looking checking for food allergies.
