I have a Kenmore energy star front loader from Sears. The only reason we have it is because it was a return or refurbish. But we love it. I keep the door open too a little when not in use. I have to be careful to remove clothes right away so they don't get moldy. I think that is because it is mostly dry by the time it gets done spinning.

I can't believe the amount of laundry it can do in one load. I can do comforters in mine. We live on a farm so that tells you how dirty the clothes can be. But then again, I"ve always pretreated my stains and dirt stains regardless of the washer I've had. Don't know why, but I've always soaked in a bucket or in the utility sink anyway so no diff there.

I have the Fisher/Paykel and absolutely love it. Our gas/electric company rated it the highest plus three friends had it and loved it. 50% less water and 60% less electricity than a conventional machine. And, yes, I noticed a savings in my electric bill the first month I had it.
We've had a well for 19 yrs but are going on-line with water in the next few months. I know I'll see a huge savings there, too.

I have the fisher/paykel and love it as well! i am totally off grid so the soft start motor is a winner for me. i can stuff lots of clothes into the thing, the water level can be automatic and it gets the clothes really clean!

You can search for my past posts on the STABER machine. We love ours and have had it for about 2 years now. Go to www.staber.com to read and see all about the washer.

Here's why we like it:

1. Top loading, but spins like a front loader.
2. Stainless steel tub.
3. Energy efficient.
4. Water efficient.
5. Laundry detergent efficient (and we don't use the kind they sell for it)

6. End-user servicable; which means that you, as the end-user, can service anything on it yourself. No repairmen, no repair bills. And yes, I have had to call them when mine had a problem. Easy to understand and no special tools required. Components and dials are not computerized with an LED screen. It is a hardy machine.

7. Spins at high speeds and clothes feel merely damp. Great for us that don't own a dryer.
8. Comparable in price to the big name guys but a better product.
9. Can hold four sets of twin sheets at once. Whew!

Cost was just about $950 and shipping to our home was another $125. If you have a truck and live within driving distance then go for a pickup.

I would look into their reviews and others' opinions, but we do not regret our purchase.

Fisher/Paykel is the way to go
Our power bill went down 20 a month since we got it
It takes about 30 mins to dry our king size comforter in our old dryer that it used to take about an 1 1/2 hrs to dry it

Thanks for the opinions. We have never heard of some of the brands listed...must not be available around here. We decided to go with the Kenmore. Hope we like it!
