Just a word of warning about those "professional" pet sitting/care services. There is one locally and they have had all sorts of incidents including leaving a gate open and the pets they were caring for up and left. A neighbor found them and brought them back home so it ended well but----they are supposed to be professionals. They also had a dog take off on them, they were walking it without a leash and he took off. Many other things too. Another one had a dog they were warned was a climber go over the fence and dragging a leash travel several miles and cross major highways before they found her. Well, they didn't find her someone did and concerned by the leash called the dog warden who told them where to go and get her. Yes, they are caring people but also a bit careless too. Someone we know had to leave on an emergency and they had a trusted neighbor caring for their stock. The neighbor got negligent and they lost a lot of animals by the time they got home. The ones still alive were in bad condition. It does pay to do your research very well.

(How would maiming them help anyhing?)

An animal attacking my neice, and i wack it with a nearby t-post ?

My point was, if my love called me and told me she was in an accident,
(which has happened), i would drop everything i was doing, and go to her.
If I had to stay by her, for days, I would, and I would attempt to make
arrangements to have the animals fed and watered, but i would not leave her.
If they animals suffer and die, it is a horrible shame, but thats what i would do.
