froggal,You convinced us that we also want to do our concrete floors like you did. BUT the hubby went to every Co-op, Ace hardware, Meeks, Home Depot, Walmart, and even the little local feed store. He spent the entire yesterday running all over Harrison AR (approx 30 miles north of us) looking for Iron Sulfate. No one has ever heard of the stuff at all and when our local feed store called to see if they could get a special order in for us, they were told those folks had never heard of the stuff either.

WHAT ON EARTH can we do now!? This is where we are stuck we have to get this floor stained SOON before we can go anyfarther with the work we need to finish if we are to move in the bottom portion of the house by the end of this coming Fall. ANY ideas anyone?????

Try nurseries.
Let your fingers do the walking.

What about my other idea about cutting it to look like tiles then putting a nice gloss on it?

Actually I've seen that -- it looks fine. But those cuts also would be a fine place for dirt and a @#$%& to clean.

Maybe I should apply that cool da-bug cleaning solution directly to the dogs and get at the source of the problem....

Thanks for the Link...BUT

I checked the Link out that was listed above in another Thread. But this is not what is stated that should be used for the staining of concrete according to a site I located on the net. The Copperas or Iron Sulfate should contain only 11% combined sulfur and 19% iron. The product spoke about when reading the link has other chemicals added. Thanks so much for trying. BUT we still are searching. Hubby was down South of here yesterday, about one hundred miles; while there he looked around for the stuff. Still no luck. It is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Go Figure. Decide what we wish to do with the floor and then haven't any luck finding the stuff in our State.

I am so disappointed but this is the way things have gone from the beginning of this house building project, nothing has come easy.

Thanks again folks,
Mawna

Darn it! I never knew it would be so hard to find! There must not be a need for it there.
Forgot:There's also copper sulphate that turns floors blue (I'm told)...I think it's the same stuf folks use to turn their hydrangeas blue(?)

Hey, Mawna -- Don't be so glum! You've got years' more setbacks to come: you're building a house! You're just beginning! Take a break and rent the old Cary Grant-Myrna Loy movie "Mr.Blandings Builds His Dream House."

I seem to recall that we considered doing the iron sulphate thing on the exterior stucco...it was the general contractor who came up with the stuff. Maybe he got it at the cement/concrete supply place. Where Real Concrete Men get their equipment and supplies.
