Hi Mawna, Great!!! Glad to hear that it's raining!! We've known some bad droughts here too from time to time. Right now it's been so blinking hot!!! Highs in 90's with almost 100% humiditiy that makes it feel like 107+ heat index. But good news is with the high humidity it can't help but rain and rain hard each evening. Thunderboomers are an almost daily thing during these times. Only bad thing is driving through all that rain with the city drivers on my way home to the country!!! But it sure is helping my garden and new trees since it rains in the evening and the rain soaks into the ground instead of drying up/running off. It's to thunderstorm more this evening as a cold front comes in and we'll have less humidty and temp down to the 80s for the weekend. Then I'll feel more like getting outside and working without sweating away 20 pounds in the first few minutes (although I could stand to lose a few LOL).

Hope the rain helps a lot out there and you get more when you need it.

Question for you Mawna, after reading all the posts about wells and perk test what has been your expierances with that and what you may have heard from others in the area. Is it hard hitting water in the area (Newton Cty), how deep do the wells go in general and have people used a local "water witch" to find good water sources? I've used some here in the past with great results. Also any problems with passing the perk test?

Thanks

Smile Pyatt

I am in Pyatt arkansas sort of in between Harrison and Mountain Home. It is great we have a large spread, cheap prices. And I work in Harrison its a 30 minute drive even with the dirt road which take the most time.
I can say arkansas is great for living well. The rocks are insane but after two years we almost have the garden large enough with a screening system to remove rocks. Our chickens are thriving as well as the dogs and cats, we have enough room that my sister and I can both live on the homestead and not be tripping over my parents and each other. No one comes ups so building and such are sort of up to your own talents.

If you decide on arkansas it is a nice area down here. Large amount of diversity of flora and fauna.
Take care - Thea

Hi Thea, I've loved Arkansas since the very first trip out there and it gets better with each trip. My late wife loved it too, wish she would have lived to have been with me when I retire. I introduced my S.O. to it and she fell in love with it too!!!

We had been looking around Mountain Home due to my late wife's illnesses but it's grown too crowded for our taste there. Looking more now around Jasper, Yellville, Mountain View areas. Hope to buy 40+ acres there sometime next year if we find the right land. Then when we retire ( 10-11 years) we hope to move there full time. In the meantime we plan to enjoy the land (build cabin, etc).

It will be like a home coming in a way. I was born and raised in farm country that has been transformed into a bedroom community for the large cities (40-70 miles away). Looking forward to getting back to more of my country roots. I have 5 acres now and it's a little bit of insulation from the crowds (have barn, llamas, goats, etc). But want more piece of mind and more affordable prices for my retirement.
