Too bad I got in on this one so late. I have had quite a bit of experience with bears and dogs, as a matter of fact me and my daughter are going to build a kennel for some very special pups.We own a proven bear dog, and he will be the father of some well thought out bear dogs. The female is half Blood hound, and half Great Dane. Our dog is a Plott hound, bull dog, border collie mix.He is too agressive, and has the war wounds to prove it, but the Dane , and Blood hound size and traits will curb this. Our dog is very gentle to children, and will atack and eat even a snake if it nears the kids.We want many pups , but will only keep the males sooo......I have only had muts my whole life, and they have been very good to my family and farm.Marty.

What KC said....if I ever get out where I've got large acreage again, I'll have another--maybe two. If I lived in the middle of the forest filled with bear, I would feel completely safe with two Anatolians. They ruined me for all other breeds.

I've had several ABs..first one I had I put down due to temperment problems...2nd one was dog aggressive...3rd one was too big and couldn't tolerate the heat..made a great guard dog though. Being that they're expensive people will breed and sell them. They run around $500 to $1k with no guarantees.
Hey TedH71 I would be very curious to know if the parents of the American Bulldogs you owned had temperament tests, and working titles. It really reduces the risk of temperament issues with man aggression and dog aggression. It also reduces risk of health problems when the puppy comes out of K9 sport parents.
You can also get a health guarantee from some breeders. Sometimes it doesn't mean much because the people don't always hang around long enough to honor their guarantee, but the good ones do.
If you have time let me know about the parents of your dogs. Thanks.

mastiffs can have joint issues, an akita would be okay if you got it from someone who had healthy even tempered adults, they dont seem to have as many health issues as other dogs their size and as I said before they can be very intimidating, same with rotties.
We raised a chessy for many years and NEVER has he ever left a grease stain...His fur looks exactly like any other dogs!! That is the craziest thing I have ever heard...They are a wonderful breed!!! We love him and miss him....Chris

Akitas for sure, they are great with kids. We have 3 full blood and 11 mixed puppies (hoping to give away). Our kids can go outside and we don't have to worry about them if they go to far the dogs will let me know, if someone comes up our driveway they let us know and they are in the back yard about 600 feet off the road. This breed is very loving.

The first one's parents were hog catch dogs...the breeder simply chose not to socialize her due to the fact that she was a runt..he only socialized the larger puppies that breeder is still breeding and now hopefully he runs a better operation 2nd one was a dog that I got in a trade and was a full red brindle with a docked tail...I will not get a dog with a docked tail again..unnatural. The 3rd one was good..simply just couldn't handle the Texas heat. I am considering trying to buy from working parents for catch dog duties. Email me privately if you would know of any breeders that don't charge an arm or a leg since I don't make much. TedH71@yahoo.com
