Mawna, you don't have to worry about ANY of us NOT bein crazy!!! :haha: :haha: :haha: Nor do you have to worry about finding good folks, as these guys are the salt of the earth.... I had a rough time of it a year or so ago, and 5 of these people that I'd met here, came to my house, which is about 3 hours away, and had me a wood cutting party, as I wasn't allowed to do that, drs orders....I also got some money from a couple of folks here too....plus, Marlene brought the BEST homemade chicken noodle soup...she made the noodles.... It sure reinforced my notion of what friends really are........ Any hoo...looking forward to meeting ya'll....and I hope you can sit around the camp fire and yak....we seem to do a LOT of that!!!!!!!!!

Mawna - you and Tom will be great encouragement to a couple of my neices and families. They are only one month into becoming homesteaders - starting from scratch with nothing but bare land. Can you imagine being in the Ozarks without an utilites this time of year? Oh, that's right some of us have been at it in the Ozarks for years and years without any utilities huh LaDonna (wink wink).
Sorry Marvella, I did not mean to over look those of you who somehow managed to get to the get together last fall from far off places -- Mawna got introduced to the get together on a tread about someone planning on relocating to the Ozarks - and I just made note of how many of the responders from the Ozarks are not yet signed up to attend the get together
Geeze...I hate to disappoint anyone but the September cheesecake will not be chocolate. It's Gail request for his birthday and he asked for a plain (vanilla?) one. Hopefully, with that, the Chocolate cake and the pralines you other birthday people will be able to fare okay. If not, I might be able to whip up a cobbler on the campfire. I got this great recipe from "The Cliff House" restaurant...which is easy and yummy.
Only 78 more days to go...
Hugs
Marlene

Hey you all Thanks so Much for the Warm WELCOME. I can't hardly wait until the Homesteader Camp Meeting!
So I take it you all mean it will be kind-a like a BIG ol' PotLuck?? Oh how I love PotLucks. My brain cells just started in going a mile a minute on what all we can bring!! Hopefully I will have deer meat left. hummm what cha' wanna do with deer meat? Cut up a big roast for a big ol' stew! That would work wouldn't it!!!! And I'll have Blackberries still, more than likely. A big ol' cobbler.
YAK around a Campfire!?? Oh girl you will be getting out the duck tape hahaha. I'm the talker. Tom's the quite type. Well he has to be I won't let him have hardly a word. Nah I ain't that bad, ~snicker~ REALLY. But ol' Tom is a tab bit hard of hearing, so that tends to make him a quiter person. So you'll have to talk a little louder than normal. But when it comes to putting up a place from scratch he can be a well of info. for someone thinking of taking on such a big project. I am hoping we can run into some folks that have passed the point we are at now too.
Hey whose the other Ozark Folks you keep referring to? HOW could they miss a Shindig like this one?

HI okgoatgal!
Just asking a snoopy curious question! What parts of Okie Land do you hail from. I was from the SE part. Ever heard of Tuskahoma, Clayton, or Antlers??
I raised my boys up near McAlester though.
Like I said I am just curious. I Love the Ozarks gobs. But I do miss Home alot. 2 of my sons still live there.

Mawna, to bad we haven't heard from Polly in ages...she and her husband John were at the last fall get together ... I was thinking her John and your Tom could have a contest to see who was the least talkative. Poor man, I sure enjoyed trying to get him into the conversation.
I'm thinking by nature a great many homesteaders aren't so much anti-social as they are enjoyers of peace and quiet. That's the excuse I'm currently using to explain why anyone would decide not to come out and meet those of us who will be there at the get together in September. We'll have to start working on them. I would love to meet all of them, but I sure would like to meet MountainMan in person - as well as his companion. I'm not sure what title she has yet. I think they are sometimes Ozarkers (?) so they might not be here at that time. Last fall I tried real hard to get Hermit John to attendent -- he just kept right on telling me he really is into being a hermit...I guess hermits don't need a day or three off to be unhermit like?
The one thing most of us have in common is our surprise at how wonderful a few days with like minded people can be. But you can't know that until you actually take part.
Only 78 more days to go....
Hugs

HERMIT, hahaha that is exactly what my nearest neighbor calls me all the time. I also love being alone. But I will go such loooong period of times without seeing anyone nor talking to anyone cuz ol' Tom don't talk much, mostly grunts. "ugh me cave man". NO I'm kidding not THAT bad! That I can get beside myself when I warm up to folks. So do carry a roll of duck tape with you. I won't take offense for long after you have slapped a piece over my mouth. Just please take it off if you see me gasping for breathe as I have more than likely thought of something else to tell you and I WILL LITERALLY DIE if you don't let me tell you immediately. Just kiddin' NOT.
This is gonna be so much FUN!!! Yeah we are gonna have to dig up some more Ozarker's. If all these other folks can come from so far off WELL then we must have a good standing of Ozarker's Correct?? Guess we will have to resort to blackmail and cohersion, Won't We??
talk at cha' later buddies!

mawna, i'm not from okla, i just currently reside her for reasons beyond my control. i would move back to ark or to mo in a heartbeat and never look back if i could, but the battle wouldn't be worth the damage to my kids. i have 13 more yrs to dream and plan, most likely. i'm in the northeast-green country-west of tulsa. one of the reasons i like these gatherings so much is they get me well out of okla and give me a chance to enjoy the hills and pretty, clean rivers

WOW now 2 Camp Sites! Ain't this just wonderful? It's growing huh? Told Tom he has to help me locate that dang ol' tent of ours. Cuz I'm in it all for the long haul that is... unless ya'll haul me off first. I'm already planning. It's just too exciting!!! We haven't had anything to look forward to like we are this in a loooong time.

how many days now?
i'm planning to take a day off work that friday to make it up there earlier than i would be able to if i had to go to work....i'm pretty sure missing one day of school won't hurt my kids that badly-and we'd all rather get up there in time to rest before we have to do other stuff-swim, talk, eat, blah blah blah

lol Laura - for those who have yet to make the trip -- it might seem strange that you will need to rest up - to better rest up. It's sort of like my three days of packing to get there - three days there - then three days to rest up from the prior six. Who would have thunk having a great time was so exausting. Perhaps, if we actually got some sleep instead of staying up most of the night talking we wouldn't be as tired by the 3rd day?
At it's only 72 more days to go....
Hugs

GOOD MORNING!
I sat down yesterday and was making a list of what all I want to cook and bring to the Homesteader Camp Meeting. Now I have a list as long as my arm. Now I will have to make decisions on which ones!
Wonder what are some of ya'lls Favorites?? And I have to remember to bring things that don't need a fridge, if there are any lefts overs.
Cakes, Cobblers, etc...
OH FOR PETE'S SAKES, SOMEBODY GIVE ME A HINT OR TOO hahaha
wellllll hope all are doing okay. I just cant get over how excited I am over this deal. Has anyone else signed up to come yet??
mawna

You all do realize that the other children that are comming will be very disapointed when TanaMc shows up without any ponys.
