Marvella, yep, he's fully recovered, although he did tangle once more with a bear...but it wasn't as bad as the first time...he still has a limp in front, not sure it will ever go away....but he's still just as ornery as ever!! He has been doing a lot of barking, at[seemingly] nothing. None of my other dogs bark....I'm wondering if he just can't hear well....or hears better than the others? Since he did get tossed out of a car, I'm suspecting the first............ I wish you could have seen my vicious bear dog sunday night....we'd had a good rain saturday night, and I'd piddled around the place all night. Was winding down toward sunset and the frogs got really loud. So, I drug out the camera and tripod, was going to take some pics of the frogs....phoenix was laying around as were all the other critters....one of the frogs jumped and got on phoenix, he just about jumped out of his skin.... :haha: :haha: :haha: mr fearless...........

First off Welcome to the Board - ttownc - noticed that was your first post.
The Annual Fall (and Spring) Buffalo River Homesteaders Get Together - is a campout of like minded people who spend a three day, or as much time as you like within the three days, get together at one of the campgrounds on the Buffalo River here in Arkansas. The Buffalo River is a National Park, so the campgrounds are managed and maintained by the National Park Service.
Each year in the Spring and Fall we will reserve a group camping spot (or 2 or 3 depending on the number of people who sign up to be there) Group Camping is set up for tents with a minimum of 10 people or a maximum of 25 people per site. The get together in September shall be at Tyler Bend where there is running water at each site, along with three picnic tables, a couple of raised charcoal grills and a large fire pit with stone protection wall and stone terrace around fire pit. A bathroom is available at group camping and hot showers are available across the meadow at individual/RV camping - within walking distance.
The river is just down the hill from the campsites - where swimming and canoeing seem to be the favorite pastimes. In the past we have had people stay with us at group camping, or at near by motels, or over at individual camping - we leave that up to each individual to decide for themselves.
We attempt to offer demos of homesteading talents - it's all volunteer and everyone is welcome to do the demos and/or partake in them. As long as they fall within park rules. In the past we've had a lecture by Carla Emery, soap making, textile spinning, fire starting, campfire cooking, animal slaughter (rabbits) to give you some idea of what sort of demos are offered.
As noted in other posts on this thread musical talents and the sharing thereof are also welcome.
We also encourage everyone to bring homesteading items from their own places to share, sell, barter, or beg to take or get..
Children and pets are welcome. Park rules require that pets be kept on a leash or be caged at all times. We've even had some of those that were traded - the animals not the children.
Contact info simply involves posting here that you would like to attend - and your name will be added to the list. Fees can be mailed in - PM (LaDonna)MntWomanAR for her mailing address; or paid at the time of get together.
Hope to see you there.
Marlene

I thought that was a no-no.

Thanks Corky - for protecting my backside again. When I asked a park ranger ... she said - technically no we're not suppose to sell anything within the park boundaries. She was kind enough to admit that the rule is more about someone driving in a roach coach and selling meals -- or someone setting up a stand on the beach and offering goods for sell....not people at group camping trading things with other members in the group...but technically we can still get in trouble for money changing hands.
Thanks for busting me on that one -- you know my "Rules or Rules" philosophy.
Hugs
Marlene

Since we have 85 days to go...I was wondering if those of you who read this thread (surely it's not just the ones already on board who are reading it, right?)...would meet my challenge of what your thoughts are on getting together in person?
Don't be afraid to tell use exactly why you definately aren't coming...but of course it would be nice to know if you are undecided and why.
Remember - no one of us had met in person when Rea and Westwood thought up the idea of havng a picnic on the Buffalo River; in other words don't let the idea that you might be stranger to us keep you from coming down (or up or over) to meet us. For those close enough - it's fine if you can only make it for a day -- Saturday is the best day to plan for it that's the case as that is when most people will be there. But anytime after noon on Friday and before noon on Sunday is also okay.
If you have any ideas on demos, and other events - share those also - even if you will not be able to make it in person this time.
Hugs

Mawna - you just did all it takes to get signed up - consider it done.
Do you want me to add your husband to the list as ol'phoot or by his given name? Are do I assume too much with the other ol'phoot being a husband?
If you have any other questions concerning the get together - please just post 'em here and they'll get answered.
You think we can recruit all those other Ozarkers I see posting on other threads -- I love all our regulars but I also sure would like to meet some new neighbors (anyone in the Ozarks is a neighbor right?).
Only 79 more days to go....
Hugs

ol' phoot's from Newton Co Arkansas
~snicker~ awhhhh, ol' phoot would do, Marlene. He does answer to that! But his given name is Tom. He'll tell you just plain ol' Tom.
That is how I woke him up this morning, telling him about the Homesteader's Shindig over at Tyler's Bend! He lit right up. Things of that nature is sure our cup o tea.
Do you need anything? ANYTHING and we will try to help out. You just name it! We will try our best to help out in anyway you all need. Food Stuff of some kind??
We have been at this "homesteading thing" try to build this house all on our own for so long that we were beginning to think we just might be the only folks that are alittle looney. You know dropping outta society pretty much the way we did and all. Sometimes it is so hard and we get discouraged somedays. But if we find a Clan of folks like us, that would be so grand! It is really hard for some people to comprehend what it is REALLY like Homesteading a place, ya know? Alot of them think it is soooo romantic. I am sure we had some of those thoughts in the beginning. Yeah I guess it is sort of still. But somedays I have to really look hard and see what all the ol' phoot has accomplished with his own bare hands. Poor fellow he had never built hardly a thing in his life when we got out here. Now he has a pretty good size barn up. And the house is all framed up. Now we just gotta save for the guts of her. We managed to find some windows on a half price sale. I finally got a toliet and sink bought. Just to get around to figuring the installation on all the above. The windows are pretty good size and I am so scared if we drop one. We gotta get em' up pretty high.
OH I am so sorry I got carried awwwwway. I didn't mean to sound like I am whining nor nothing. Just to talk to folks that know what I mean finally feels so good. Dad-gum you have no idea how good!
Let us know what we can do to help, okay?
see ya!
