found a few morels, it got hot fast her though , and hasnt rained in over a week and a half, not good shroom weather,
did find some bearded tooth , and a couple , less than a lb of morels, not hardly enough for a meal , other than the bearded tooth , and they take time to work out right
am getting some mushroom books,
but my favorites, besides the morels, are summer mushrooms, the meadow mushrooms ( also called fairy rings, the safe ones have light PINK undersides, and grow in rings) and of course puffballs, in fact puffballs were the first wildmushroom i ever collected myself and ate, we used to get slippery jacks from my aunt when she was alive , she collected them , i never did like them though , too well, slippery...
last year we collected several hen of the woods mushrooms ,
my problem is , there are so many mushrooms, and we like to eat them , so..... we never end up with any set aside for winter, and somehow, though i cave on occassion , its not the same withthe store ones ...
year before last we had the best harvest of meadows, harvested 18 lbs in 1 afternoon , it was perfect fall weather, cooler, mid 70s then rain for a day, then 55-60 degree nights, and days in the 70s, on the third day we went out and hit paydirt !!!
ok ok , enough already
by the way... best hunting spots anywhere no one else is looking !
think part of the reason i love the summer mushrooms is no one else thinks to collect them , round here its morels in the spring and thats about it for most people , so for me , the fall and late summer ones are best, no competition
