the taste of raw milk is better than cooked milk, too. once i tasted raw goat milk, i much prefer it to cooked store bought milk. and my kids stayed healthier on the raw goat milk than they have been since i had to give up the goats.

Thanks everyone. The farmer told me what time he milks and told me to come then or as close to milking time as I can, so I am hoping that is a good sign. I am going to run by tomorrow and take a tour and ask him questions and inspect the place before we start buying from him. I appreciate the advice and the links. I will be doing some reading today.

Our 3 boys had raw milk as their only cow's milk for their first years, after they were weaned from Mom. That was 6 to 11 years for them, and the milk was from 2 different dairies. Now that they are grown we are once again getting raw milk occassionally from some friends who are an hour and a half drive away, and when the boys are around they drink the raw milk first, they only drink store milk if there is no choice.
One of the things that I noticed was that a glass that had raw milk in it and was left sitting dirty on the sink overnight wasn't hard to clean out--the milk hadn't turned to a hard scum that stuck to the glass overnight like store milk does. I don't know if that is the pasturization or the homogonization, both of which seem to affect the actual food value of the milk.

Has a nice bit of information about raw milk too.
Sorry but that site was biased.A lot of studys have shown that pasturized milk is now having to be double treated because of the pathogens beginning to be found in the milk!
Some of the organic dairys are willing to show the much better tests they have from their state approved testing agencies. With no warning my cousin showed up at my dads to get a milk sample while attending Penn State Collage. He was trying to prove raw was bad.Guess what, DIDN'T WORK :haha: !!!
I took the time to check the one up the road when our goats dried up all at the same time.Very impressive!!

We've been buying raw milk for almost a year and absolutely love it. The taste is extremely superior to "supermarket sludge" milk. We make butter with it and use the buttermilk in pancake batter.
