Yes, DO use that filter again.Just change it more often. That's where you want the dirt, not inside the furnace, ducts, etc..

Yes, the higher quality filters do a much better job at removing household dust from the air. That directly translates into less household dusting (save time), and fewer airborne particles that may reduce your exposure to allergens.

I'd never remember to change the filter on time, so I upgraded my thermostat to one of those $80 electronic toys at Home Depot. It alerts me when it's time to change the filter. The main benefit of the electronic thermo is that you configure it for Wake, Leave, Return and Sleep times for each day, which is a real energy saver. We have ours drop to 64 at night, up to 70 at 6:30am, down to 68 at 9:00am (I work in a home office otherwise I'd have it drop to 64 during the day) during the weekdays, etc.

Sean.

That filter was only in a couple of weeks. Unlike the fiber kind that you can see through, that one was thicker and you can't see through it. I don't want to have any more problems. Lucky I didn't ruin something.

While it's still fresh on you mind, open the blower compartment door and reach in and feel the motor housing and vanes of the squirel cage to see how much dirt has accumulated. That's what got past the cheap filters. If it's dirty there, and you have A/C, the cooling coils are probably clogged.

Seanpecor...can we come stay at your house? Our thermostat is at a high of 64 during the day because the wife and kids along with the childcare kids are here. At night it goes to 58 and that's a concession to the wife. I'd set it at 55 if she wouldn't murder me in my sleep.
