Fifteen years ago I was in the hospital three days trying to pass kidney stones (also found out I had gallstones while I was there...had to have surgery for that).

Three years later I was in the hospital a week trying to pass kidney stones...went into kidney failure that time.

My doctor told me to quit drinking tea. The tannic acid in tea causes calcium crystals to stick together.

I drink Diet Coke all day long. I haven't had tea in 12 years and I haven't had another kidney stone in 12 years either.

Hum, I never thought I drank that much tea. I look back and I may drink 1 to 3 bottles a week. and sometimes none. If I dont have the money to buy Arizona RX stress relief, I dont drink it. But I know we are all differant. Maybe it is enough just the times I do. I wounder if it is all tea? Even herbals? Does it naturaly occure, or is it added? So could I grow and make my own?

I've heard of people getting them from drinking too much milk, and too much soda. My husband was drinking SIX cans of Pepsi a day, and all of the sudden came down with the worst pain in his life. I took him to the hospital, he was treated with pain meds to pass the stone and antibiotics for a low-level kidney infection that he had developed. We found out that even only three cans a week greatly increases your risk of another stone. When he wants a soda, he drinks Sprite or flavored, carbonated water. He hasn't had a stone since the first one - and that was almost three years ago.

I drank a lot more tea than you do. I grew up drinking tea for every meal except breakfast. Always drank unsweetened tea, but it wasn't the sugar that was the problem. Yes, tannic acid occurs naturally in tea. The doctor also recommended I drink mostly clear liquids, starting with water. He even suggested I stick to clear juices...apple, cranberry and not orange or grape juice. I don't like any carbonated drinks other than Diet Coke and he said it was okay to drink them as long as I drink plenty of water every day.
