I know just how they felt. It was so sad watching him waiting so patiently for his "human" to come & get him. I think I was as happy as the owner was.

I am not known as a particularly religious person, but when it comes to animals...

I firmly believe that sometimes God puts animals in your path. And when that happens, you have to step up. Just like you did.

The last stray I picked up was wondering on a busy road. I got him into the car and went to the golf course that was within site. I got told he has been running back and forth for a few hours. Not one of them could even call the pound to come and get him. I guess it would have taken to much time from there games  well the first house I stopped at is were he belonged. The little girls were so happy to get him back it even made up for the muddy paw prints.I just don't understand people most of the time.

I can't stand it much longer

Now maybe next time OD sees a dog, OD won't wait for 3 days to do something about it!!!!! That was too long of time, but at least you did "come to your senses"!

Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sympathies. This happens on our road so much that I'm afraid to drive down it. Five dogs in the last six months. Yes, I stop and pick them up. The vet says I have "sucker" written all over me, but how can I just keep driving by? Just can't do it, it's not right that a helpless animal is done this way. Nine times out of ten they are wonderful pets, just have to find them a home. We don't have a rescue shelter in our area, but I figure I can do a tiny bit to better this world. If you do your tiny bit, then maybe we can make a little difference. God blesses those with tender hearts, don't you think?

Your thread made my heart sink. I'm glad there was a happy ending.
Now I can go about my day very much relieved.

I picked up a stray sickly maybe 4 months old pup walking along a gravel road this spring. Looked like she had some red lab in her but most of her hair was gone. Took her to the vet and a hundred dollars later she started to get better and was running around this summer. She got to feeling so good that she got ahold of some of my chickens one day. Now they have to be separated until I can afford a shock collar.

SOOOOOOO glad you picked up the pup! One of my great fears would be not knowing what happened to one of mine. I have a bunch of geriatric dogs and keep them under close tabs for that reason. I'd rather see them dead for sure than not have a clue what happened to them. You saved that family from that awful fate and delivered back their buddy to them. Bless your heart! The question for me would never be "should I pick it up?" but the question would be "should I keep it?" I've picked up plenty of strays (dogs and cats) and only a couple of times has it been a pet that was lost. It does make it all worth while though when it is a lost pet and not one that has been deliberately dumped. I just don't understand how people can do such a thing to an animal that so beautifully defines unconditional love. I LOVE that poem about God and the dog. I really do have a huge soft spot for critters but dogs just have that extra special something. They NEVER talk back and are always happy to see you like they haven't seen you in a year. Bet that pup is as happy to see his people as they were to see him. Awwwwww! With all the misery in the world these days, what a great way to start out the New Year!
